Surah #110 Consisting of 3 Ayahs

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In Allah's Name, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

إِذَا جَاء نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ

 When Allah's support comes as well as victory, 

This Surah was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) when finally he and the Muslims triumphed over Mecca.

     It is good to know that this one of a kind victory came after the Muslims struggled so hard and for so long.  The Muslims suffered greatly at the hands of the disbelievers in Mecca.  It was a harsh, prolonged, and intense struggle which took almost twenty years.

     It was a glorious victory for Islam and a triumph for Allah's Religion when Mecca was conquered.  With this victory, people came to accept Islam in the thousands.  In a short time all of Arabia became blessed with Islam and the nation of Islam became quite big.

     In this Ayah, Allah (swt) tells Prophet Muhammad that when Islam becomes victorious and: 

وَرَأَيْتَ النَّاسَ يَدْخُلُونَ فِي دِينِ اللَّهِ أَفْوَاجًا

and you see people entering Allah's religion in groups. 

     When you see people, thousands upon thousands of them, coming to declare their accepting Islam, you will rejoice and feel very happy.  But at the same time, Allah is reminding the Prophet (pbuh) and the Muslims that:  The triumph and victory come with Allah's help and through Him.

Therefore, they should: 

فَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ وَاسْتَغْفِرْهُ إِنَّهُ كَانَ تَوَّابًا

Praise the glory of your Lord and seek His  forgiveness,

for certainly He is ever-forgiving. 

     Since the credit of this great victory belongs to Allah (swt), Allah is reminding the people to celebrate the praise of the Lord and to thank Him.  The people are to thank Allah for all His help and to appreciate His kindness and assistance.  They also are to celebrate His praise over and over again.

     Allah (swt) reminds us that when we finally succeed, we ought to thank Him and glorify Him, rather than feel proud.  We should have humility, pray for forgiveness and be grateful to our Creator.

     We should remember that we are imperfect and that we are always erring.  We should beg Allah for His forgiveness of all our wrongdoings.  And we are to remember that Allah is ever ready to show mercy and to forgive us. 

THROUGH SURAH AL-NASR ALLAH WANTS US: 

1. To remember that any triumph comes through Allah's help,

2. To remember that the triumph over Mecca was a great victory for Islam,

3. that when we do succeed, we should glorify Allah and nothing else, and we should celebrate His praise,

4. To be grateful to Allah (God) and thankful for His help whenever we succeed,

5. To avoid becoming proud of ourselves, show off, or be unreasonable, and

6. To try to be humble, remembering Allah is the forgiver.
